>The Crusades were a series of campaigns during Medieval Europe against the Muslims in the Middle East
>the main reason for the crusades was for the France, Germany, and Italy armies to gather together to win back the Holy Land (Jerusalem) back from the Muslims that stole it from them
>The Crusades Impacted Europe:
~helping the decline of feudalism because most of the rich land owners kept getting hurt or killed
~Made the Middle class stronger, also because of the decline
~brought a bigger trade to Medieval Europe because the crusades opened new trade routes
~It brought valuable goods that they have never seen before, such as salt and silk
>There were eight main crusades:
>The first crusade:
~It was during 1096 -- 1099 A.D.
>The second crusade:
~It was during 1147 -- 1149 A.D.
~Louis Vll took part
>The third crusade:
~it was during 1189 -- 1192 A.D.
~Phillip Audustus and Richard Coeur-de Lion took part
>The forth crusade:
~it was during 1202 -- 1204 A.D.
~Constantinople took part in this crusade
~This Crusade was the most important
~The French and English made a new strategy to attack and win back the Holy Land
~This strategy was to attack the Saracens from an opposite direction by sailing across the Mediterranean Sea to Egypt and marching to the Holy Land from there and attacking them from the south.
~This strategy was not exactly followed. When they were getting ready to cross the Mediterranean Sea Alexius Comnenus asked them for help to gain back his throne (for Constantinople) and he would pay for the rest of the crusade if they did. When he got back his throne he did not have the money to repay them. So, they decided to attack the city in 1204, they were successful at sacking the city and stealing all the wealth and gold.
~The crusaders never made it to the Holy Land but they gained wealth and victory.
>The fifth crusade:
~it was during 1218 -- 1221 A.D.
~Damietta had took part in this crusade
>The sixth crusade:
~it was during 1228 -- 1229 A.D.
~Frederick ll, Thibaub de Champagne, and Richard of Cornwall was involved with this crusade
>The seventh crusade:
~it was during 1248 -- 1254 A.D.
~St. Louis was involved with this crusade
>the eighth crusade:
~it was during 1270 A.D.
~St. Louis was involved with this crusade also
