People of the Middle Ages didn't just go to work and do the same things everyday, they had a chance once or twice a year to relax and enjoy up to two weeks of fairs! The Medieval festivals brought to life the customs and spirit of the Middle Ages. Castles, churches, and towns provided a theatrical backdrop to the many colorful parades, fairs, carnivals and festivals scattered throughout the calendar of Medieval Europe. These Medieval festivals or celebrations revolved around feast days that had pagan origins and were based on ancient agriculture celebrations that marked when certain crops should be planted or harvested.

It was very important that the people at the festivals could have a great time and enjoy themselves. Jousting was always one way the people at the festivals could have a good time. Jousting was a sport in which two knights on horses attempted to unhorse each other with the unblunted lance. Some festivals were for everyone to attend to, and some were only for the loyal and wealthy people, like celebrations of certain things.
