ROLES: The lives of the women in the Middle Ages differed depending on their class. Peasant and noble women acted as house-wifes, some ways the same and some different. Noble women cooked, cleaned, and made clothing in the house (if wealthy enough, manor house or castle). Peasant woman did the same, but also worked in the fields (especially during harvest).

Catherine of Valois- Queen consort of England and married King Henry V. After Henry died, she was exiled from court due to her French origin. Born : 1401 Died: 1437

Eleanor of Province- Queen of England who married to King Henry III, and gave birth to King Edward I. She was famous for her beauty and was truly devoted to her husband. Born : 1223 Died : 1291

Joan of Arc- She led the French to their victory of the Hundred Years War. Born : 1412 Died : 1431
EVENT SURROUNDING WOMEN IN THE MIDDLE AGES- JOAN OF ARC
As a child, Joan received visions from God telling her to recover her French land from English domination. She was then captured and sold to the English. The English were confused (because they were mainly Christian and believed in God) why their God would turn against them and help their opponents defeat them in battle. In result, Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431. She changed the perception of women because they mainly stayed in the house and worked in the fields, but Joan showed that women can to follow their dreams and do what they believe in.

Women in the Middle Ages were a big part of everyday live, and with out them, things would become very complicated. Peasant women helped their husbands in the field (especially during harvest time). Also, they make the clothes for the people of the household. Men needed good quality clothing to work in the the fields and to fight.

IMPACT ON THE WORLD
The role of women in the Middle Ages impacted the world in many ways. They were thought of less than man (like women were in America 50 years ago). Women couldn't vote and they didn't have nearly as many rights as men.
DID YOU KNOW?.......
.........That women were paid about half what men did for the same job. They would only raise a higher wage if the business involved spinning or dying thread......... That women often had little choice of who they would marry..........That other than money, women were paid from their lord through grains, vegetables, eggs, animals, honey, and more.
